Renegade parade update // SUPERNOVA! update

Over the past week or so, it has become clear that the planned renegade
parade for August 9th cannot happen
:(

Anybody who knows us well should be familiar with the personal problems
plaguing Newmindspace's founders, and it is making collaboration difficult
at this time.

On top of that, there really has not been any substantial response to the
artist call, and Toronto's best marching band Samba Elegua (the backbone
of both past renegade parades) will be out of town that weekend.

Times are dark, but we will rise again. Our next event will likely be
Capture the Flag in September!

***

That means we will still need to raise money for the thousands of
glowstick necklaces used at Capture the Flag, and hopefully for
lightsabers down the road!

SUPERNOVA! is still very much on, as well as all Newsoundspace-related
endeavors
:)

Tickets are selling fast
:)
Hopefully this will actually be a fundraiser
unlike BRITE!, hah.

If you would like to promote for SUPERNOVA!, reply to this message.

***

And of course, the always amazing, creative, wild RANDOMLAND carries on
tonight, bigger and better for the summer
:)

Keep on jetting, rocketeers!

Renegade parade artist call + SUPERNOVA! ticket locations

Hey spacekids! It's definitely Summer :D You know what that means!

1. Parade artist call
2. SUPERNOVA! tickets

***

1. Renegade Parade artist call - August 9th 2008

These last two years, "Flight of Fancy" and "Castles in the Sky" have been
the two events in the summer that epitomize the feeling simmering in this
city, a hunger for beauty and a thirst for freedom and fun. If the medium
is the message, and the medium is a renegade street parade, the message is
clear
:)

This year on August 9th, the renegade parade returns to the streets of
Toronto, brought to you by a multitude of crews including The Rothko
Institute and Newmindspace.

We are looking for mobile soundsystems, marching bands, artists, dancers,
veggie oil buses, rickshaws, fire spinners, floats, ideas, cyclists,
revelers, and any other positive contribution to make this the most epic
one yet.

Name, theme and website to be announced shortly. Please forward this to
any creative people you know, which is everybody
:)
Dreams come true.

Sunday stage lineup changed, Laser Graffiti canceled + more

Hey spacekids,

We received this e-mail from Harbourfront Centre yesterday:

***

July 2, 2008

RE: Explanation for Newmindspace DJ Set for BBC Finale

Unfortunately due to the short turnaround that Harbourfront Centre must
provide in order to start Camps the following morning we must end the
Toronto Star Stage at 6:00pm on Sunday July 6, 2008.

We do apologize for this oversight and hope we can move forward and make
this a memorable experience for all.

Thank you for your understanding

***

We had originally been promised 4:30pm - 7:30pm as a makeup for POP!,
which was shut down due to an oversight by Harbourfront Centre. This
makeup date was promised in good faith and we understand this change is
beyond the control of our contacts at Harbourfront Centre, who have
provided us with many amazing opportunities.

In light of this, please join us for Unabomber and special guests from
4:30pm - 6pm spinning funky breaks and hard techno (we think! It's always
a surprise with that guy.)

Anyway, it is sure to be a great finale to a great festival, so come out
and have a good 90 minutes with us!

***

However, in light of this oversight, we have decided to cancel laser
graffiti. We apologize to everybody who was looking forward to it. Believe
us, we will do it in the future, hopefully before the winter, but probably
not as part of any sanctioned festival. The best thing about never asking
permission is that nobody can say "no" at the last minute.

***

Also some of you have asked about the annual renegade street parade. We
are totally excited to put it on! But it is looking like it will probably
be later in August now. We would like some budget to be able to make it
even better and more elaborate than the last two, and to coordinate with
the various groups around the city that really make it happen. Hopefully
we will be able to make some money at Supernova! and make it as grand as
it should be. Stay tuned!

Donations are always gratefully accepted at
http://www.newmindspace.com/donate.php

Until next time,

Newmindspace
http://www.newmindspace.com

PS - Going to the final WEMF this year? Join us for a bubble battle at 4pm
on the Saturday of the festival

As part of Beats, Breaks, & Culture festival at Harbourfront Centre, we

Research Lab (http://www.graffitiresearchlab.com)

The technology is pretty simple: you aim a laser at a wall, draw stuff,
and light is projected wherever the laser has touched by a projector
hooked up to a video camera. See it in action in this video:

*** AUGUST 2: SUPERNOVA! ***

Newsoundspace was conceived as a fundraising arm of Newmindspace, a way to
free us from constantly having to ask for donations from our community
(although every dollar is totally appreciated!) Our last fundraiser,
BRITE!, was a failure in the sense that it did not raise money, but was a
success in the sense that it brought a new sound to a crowd that normally
cannot hear it because it is only played in clubs.

Featuring: Stupid Fresh (UK), Hatiras, JELO, and Bubblyfish (NYC) this
event seeks to further develop the culture we've seen evolving at events
like Yuri's Night, BRITE! and POP! A culture with no name but a really
positive vibe! Hopefully it will make some money for Newmindspace this
time
:)
