music-related announcements for you soon!
3. Loft hunting continues
We are still on the lookout for a large, legal loft/warehouse space we can
rent. If you know of any buildings seeking non-residential studio tenants
or even commercial tenants for periods of 12 months or more, let us know.
We have been scouring Craiglist with limited success. We are looking for
somewhere between 2,000 and 9,000 square feet. Please help us if you know
of any spaces like this!
4. Burning Man tickets go on sale January 16th )'(
Many of the weird and wonderful things that happen in New York and San
Francisco are the product of those cities' healthy Burning Man
communities. Burning Man is not for everyone, but for everyone who has
expressed interest in going over the last year, here is your only chance
to get "cheap" tickets.
The only way to get the $210 ticket price is to be at
http://tickets.burningman.com/ at 1:00pm EST
*exactly*
. Miss it by a few
minutes and you could be paying between 15 and 85 dollars more for
tickets. For most people, you need to buy tickets months before you know
how you're getting there, or you probably won't be going at all.
Once again, we are going to attempt to organize ground transportation from
Toronto to the desert in the form of 12-seat vans pulling U-Haul cubes.
This is not at all confirmed, but if you could assist in renting a vehicle
or being insured to drive it, your help would be appreciated!
Please note that at Burning Man, pARTicipation is mandatory! Check out
some photos from last year here:
http://flickr.com/photos/tags/burningman2007/interesting and get
brainstorming
:)
5. The Little Green Book of Big Savings...
For the last nine months of her life, our dear friend BabyG has been
working on this awesome book. Here is her description:
"This book is a new, one-of-a-kind, environmentally conscious coupon book
and directory for local businesses. The goal of this book is to
strengthen our local green economy and provide information and valuable
coupons that will encourage Torontonians to live a sustainable and healthy
lifestyle.
The book is a handy guide and reference tool on how to be greener in
everyday life. It contains pages of practical tips, useful resources and
180 valuable coupons. There is over $4,000 in savings and freebies from
local and independently owned green businesses and services throughout
downtown Toronto, primarily located between Dufferin to Yonge and Dupont
to King.
Not sure where to dispose of batteries and light bulbs? Want to know how
to reduce unwanted junk mail and marketing calls to your home? Do you know
what an 'offset' is? You'll find the answers, as well as other actions
you can take for a greener tomorrow, all in this portable book of
savings."
Find out where to get it at Check http://www.thelittlegreenbook.ca/
:)
Stay warm, Toronto!

AC Slater, Queen of Hearts 08 + more!
Dear space cadets,
1. ***AC Slater @ RANDOMLAND tomorrow!***
http://newmindspace.com/random
Our good friend AC Slater from Brooklyn is coming to spin his unique brand
of electro and bassline at RANDOMLAND this Friday
:)
We are very excited
for this one, and hope you'll join us!
We are also blowing up
*hundreds*
of inflatable balls and releasing them
into the crowd - something which, we suspect, can only lead to a giant
game of dodgeball
;)

2. ***Queen of Hearts - February 13th 2008***
Queen of Hearts is our sorta-annual event where we paint the town our
favourite colour! Pink!! This event is a massive undertaking so we will
need a
*lot*
of volunteers. The plan this year is to paint pinkpinkpink
chalk hearts along Queen St. W from Yonge St. to Trinity Bellwoods, at
least!
If you are interested in helping us, please add your name and e-mail
address to the volunteer list on the page below:
http://newmindspace.com/queenofhearts08.php
and if you would like to check out photos from 2006 (Yonge to Bathurst),

3. ***No Pants report!***
Random Living's No Pants Subway Ride 08 was a hilarious success! We look
forward to more events from that project
:)
Check out photos on the Facebook group here:
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=9795926022
4. ***Links!***
As you may know, we haven't really built the links section on our site
yet, but considering how networked and intersecting this big crazy scene
is, we thought it was about time.
As you may know, Newmindspace has, at times, served as an intersection
between public space, art, and music. That is why we're asking you: what
are the greatest websites in Toronto that fall under these three
categories: public space, art, and music?
For the first two categories, public space and the arts, we are looking
for free, fun, non-facebook, non-commercial links. For the music category,
we are looking for more than just Myspace profiles.
Of course, if you want to link to our website, that would be wonderful,
too
:)
5. ***Burning Man tickets on sale now***
Oh yeah, Burning Man tickets have gone on sale! There are some cheap ways
to get there from Buffalo: try BUF -> SFO. You can get a cheap ride to the
playa via Craigslist.
You could also take a Greyhound bus using companion fare for even cheaper!
Be creative, it's worth it
:)
http://tickets.burningman.com

6. ***Love!***
And to conclude, here is a poem by the late Canadian poet bpNichol, our
plea for a large snowfall
:)
in the snow world
slowed wheels rumble
the heaped flow of the crystals grow
around us
white's white shift
slips thru the hung trees
line the slopes of these mountain valleys &
we drift on as the snow mounts
higher climbing
towards an imagined top or ridge
entrances the cloud world hid
to the fall now
thru snow, white clouds
the world be/l'eau

No Pants Subway Ride this Sat., Queen of Hearts 2k8 + more
1. No Pants Subway Ride this Saturday!
2. RANDOMLAND
3. Queen of Hearts 2008
You may know of Improv Everywhere, kindred spirits and personal friends of
ours in New York! Their wacky antics, from the MP3 Experiments to their
Best Buy prank, are immense amounts of fun for participants. One of their
greatest annual traditions, of course, is the No Pants Subway Ride.
Which is why we are thrilled that Random Living, with some promotional
help from yours truly, will be hosting a Toronto version on Saturday, and
you can bet we'll be there, pantsless :P
*** 1. TORONTO NO PANTS SUBWAY RIDE ***
http://facebook.com/event.php?eid=9795926022
This Saturday, January 12th, 2008
All ages and genders are invited to ride the subway with no pants!
Meet in the Price Chopper parking lot outside Dundas West station, 2800
Dundas St. W, at 3:00 PM sharp. Further instructions will be given there,
and they are very important, so don't wait around in the station! There
are only a few requirements:
1) Willingness to take pants off on the subway
2) Ability to keep a straight face about it
3) A backpack/bag to keep the pants in
4) No cameras or spectators of any kind, this will give it away!
The complete information is available at
http://facebook.com/event.php?eid=9795926022 - mark your attendance.
Also check out the NYC edition @ http://improveverywhere.com - these guys
rule!
Hope to see you there, not wearing pants!
:)
*** 2. RANDOMLAND this Friday ***
And if you want to get in on the randomness this Friday at CiRCA, our
reduced admission list is still poppin'!
http://newmindspace.com/random
*** 3. QUEEN OF HEARTS, February 13th 2008 ***
Last year's Queen of Hearts, our almost-annual tradition of chalk-painting
thousands of pink hearts on the sidewalks of Queen Street West, was
brought to a screeching halt by a massive blizzard. However, 2006 was
awesome, check out the pics
:)
http://newmindspace.com/queenofhearts.php
Anyway, we will be attempting this again and, if there is a blizzard, we
can just have a snowball fight instead
:)
The call for volunteers will go
out shortly!

Last day in Toronto
Well folks, today is the last day I have to make the trip into Toronto for work. Actually I don't see any reason to ever be in the city again but you never know what might happen down the line. I'll never work in the city again, that's for certain. Never again will I have to put up with the people, the stupidity, the stench, the waste.
What else is there to say? I'm sitting on the GO train on my way in. This will also be the last post from a blackberry as it belongs to my employer and I will be relinquishing it today. I can't say I'll miss it. I certainly won't miss getting up at the ass crack of dawn to catch the train to work either. The extra money was nice, but that can be replaced.
So goodbye Toronto! So long zombie hordes! Your presence is intolerable!

"When I was in Israel looking at these large shed dairies, they look like European daries, but instead of being fed with crops from natural rainfall, the crop in Israel are grown from water which has been pumped with electricity. Vast field crops of corn and wheat are fed to dairy animals. And I said to the people there, 'You know, in Australia the glass of milk we drink is about twenty percent oil. In Europe, it's about fifty to sixty percent oil. In Israel, it's about ninety percent oil!'"
