Bangin' electro tunes will blast from the Rothko Institute + VelcroRocket
portable soundsystem, and we will ghost ride the train!

GHOST RIDE THE SUBWAY PARTY
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31st 2oo7
KIPLING STATION @ 11:13pm sharp!
http://newmindspace.com/ghostride.php

You may join the party at any station, but the fun starts at Kipling
:)

Last year's went perfectly! This is because we followed some simple
guidelines for the TTC's sake:

* Pay your fare and keep your transfer
;)

* No smoking
*anything*

* No open alcohol, tickets have been written before
* Keep off the seats, really!
* Mind the emergency alarm
* Leave no trace
* Don't hold doors open or leave the train

Costumes are mandatory
:)

For those of you going to the 7:00 Rocky Horror, please keep this a
secret. No Facebook, please. For those of you looking for an afterparty,
there's a lot of stuff happening in the Queen + Dufferin area.

We will be riding in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in
Montreal, who are having a metro party at the same time
:)

Happy Halloween!

*** LIGHTSABER BATTLE ***

Okay, they are actually UV-reactive cardboard tubes, use your imagination!
1,000 dayglo tubes will be distributed in front of the Jawa Sandcrawler
near Museum Subway station and the epic battle of Jedi vs. Sith will
commence!

LIGHTSABER BATTLE
FRIDAY NOVEMBER 17th 2oo7
BLOOR + AVENUE RD. @ 9:30pm

http://www.newmindspace.com/lightsaberbattle.php

This battle will also serve as a fundraiser for buying
*real*
lightsabers
for the Summer, so pay what you can
:)

Afterward, we will head to RANDOMLAND on the subway for the afterparty! :D

Speaking of which...

*** RANDOMLAND at CiRCA: Distilling Our Culture ***

We ran a small experiment after Capture the Flag, and it actually worked!
That experiment was heading to A.D/D.'s RANDOMLAND - so much fun! Well, it
happens every Friday and as it turns out, a lot of the people in the
Newmindspace community go there every week!

http://facebook.com/event.php?eid=8279205929
http://addevents.com

For a long time, we have been looking for a space to distill our culture,
to seek transient moments of self-actualization and to develop and nurture
this beautiful thing we have. Something we have needed for a long time is
a suitable indoor playground, like the Imaginarium we tried to open. We do
one event a month, but those other 29 days, where are we all? Come out and
play
:)

Massive, unique fun has hit Toronto's nightlife, and we want to share it!
RANDOMLAND on Fridays
*is*
this indoor playground, completely different
than anything we've ever experienced. The people are super bright and
colourful, the costumes are outrageous, and the music is the sound of the
future. We've finally found a party that deserves your attention!

So anyway, if you wanna hang on Fridaze, come to CiRCA for RANDOMLAND. We
will not be sending weekly e-mails or anything, we just want you to come

:)

Patches of rain spreading from the west

Ah, severe thunderstorm warnings, gotta love em. So let's do some updates while we wait for the thunderheads to roll in, shall we?

Lots of stuff has happened in the last little while: changed my job to part time hourly so I don't have to travel into Toronto every day any longer, got married to my highschool sweetheart, gained two children, ate my vegetables, got a mountain bike with my airmiles....although i haven't finished putting it together yet, went back to school to take a Wilderness Survival course, bought an exercise bike, bought a counter top watercooler with a water filter bottle, bought a dehydrator...haven't opened the box yet, and a new kitty...a 5 year old 30 pound (est.) black and white cat named Raven.

That's about it right now. I have to go make some KD for Peanut.

CTF Tomorrow + volunteer + afterparty + more!

http://www.newmindspace.com

Capture the Flag is tomorrow. Our hearts are beating loudly!

1. Last minute important stuff
2. Volunteer meeting tomorrow
3. Final event info
4. Afterparty info - Randomland!
5. Free WiFi passwords

***

1. Last Minute
*Important*
Stuff

We are expecting a lot of people tomorrow! We will be dividing the teams
in two by distributing pink and blue glowsticks. Then we will hand out
maps and announce the rules over a loudspeaker.

* DONATIONS are not quite there yet. Donations are voluntary but we will
be gratefully collecting them at the game
:)
We ordered an additional
1,000 glowsticks today so we don't run out this year!

* PLEASE SIT DOWN to hear the rules. Last year, people couldn't hear them
in the back. Our soundsystem will be larger, but do your fellow players a
small favour and sit down to hear the rules.

* NOTE that the PATH map will not be printed on the maps this year,
replaced instead with the rules of Capture the Flag. If you want a PATH
map, you may print it out from our website
:)

* JAYWALKING is dangerous and illegal. Last year the police issued tickets
and summonses to jaywalkers and cyclists without lights, and there is no
reason to think they won't do it again. Do not run or bike across major
streets - you could be killed.

* FUN is the goal of Capture the Flag! Please keep this in mind at all
times and make sure the game is fun for everybody! If you see somebody who
is getting too competitive, remind them what it's all about
:)

2. Volunteer meeting tomorrow!

The volunteer meeting will be at 6:00pm at Newmindspace HQ tomorrow.
Volunteers ensure there is no cheating, address rule disputes, tally the
score and keep an eye on things generally. Without volunteers, this game
couldn't happen
:)

That's 6pm at Newmindspace HQ before the game.

Call 416-875-4795 if you need to!

5. Toronto Hydro Telecom Donates WiFi to Capture the Flag!

In what has come as a pleasant surprise, Toronto Hydro Telecom has donated
to us a bunch of usernames and passwords to surf their OneZone network
during Capture the Flag! You can use these during the game to plan
strategies, chat with other players or blog live from the event, among
other things. Here they are. Thanks guys!

Capture the Flag in 11 days! + Nuit Blanche recap + more

Hello space cadets!

We are still quite exhausted from Nuit Blanche! Thanks for visiting String
of Diamonds! There was plenty of bad and good, from the theft of most of
our lights (again) to the cheering the moment the string was raised -
check out our blog post about it for our full recap of the evening:

http://www.newmindspace.com/lens/?p=21

A very special thanks to our dedicated volunteers, without whom the string
never would have gotten in the air
:)
You guys rock!

PS - We found two sets of keys and a cellphone. If you lost those things,
let us know with a description.

*** CAPTURE THE FLAG is SO SOON! ***

1. Mark it on the 'book
2. We need donations!
3. We need volunteers!
4. Event info

Capture the Flag is in 11 days! AH!

(This game is 3 days after Kevin's birthday! This is kind of like a
birthday party for him so bring the love and send some wishes! <3 Lori)

There is lots to be done, but first and foremost we need to figure out how
many people are coming!

1. Please mark your attendance on Facebook, this will allow us to order
the right number of glowing necklaces: http://tinyurl.com/yu455k

2. Speaking of which, we are totally broke! and glowsticks cost money. We
are in need of some serious donations to cover the cost. We really, really
appreciate every dollar we get, and we hope you feel we've earned it.
Please chip in here:

http://newmindspace.com/donate.php

Donors will be personally thanked via loudspeaker, and the largest donor
will get a cookie telegram. Seriously. Cookies. Delivered to your door!

:-D

3. The volunteer meeting will be at 6 PM at our place a few hours before
the game. Final info on that will go out a few days before
:)
No need to
sign up, just show up! Volunteers make this game happen - and therefore
make the world go 'round
:)

4. And finally, the info! (lifted from http://newmindspace.com <- more
info there)

CAPTURE THE FLAG 2007
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12th
Meet @ KING & BAY at 9:00 PM (SW corner)
$free + all ages! rain or shine

The Financial District is really the only 'hood that can support our
numbers, and the whole "underground tunnel" thing is just too cool to be
ignored. Also, if the cops take the blue flag again, we have extras
;)

Compared to the average Friday night in Toronto, this is going to be a
great one
:)

Are you ready?

*** THE FUTURE: A GLOBAL NETWORK ***

Recently, we wrote a guide called "how to organize a giant pillow fight".
We e-mailed it to pillow fight organizers in 30 cities in 15 countries,
and the response was overwhelming! We realized that we are part of a
global network of people who host/attend free happenings in public spaces
around the world, but that we are completely cut off from the other
groups. We asked ourselves, "How do we connect our community with the rest
of the world?"

Well, we have the answer, and it will come in the form of a brand-new,
non-commercial website for people who attend events like these.

From a Vancouver SkyTrain party to a métro party in Montréal, a Capture
the Flag game in Toronto to a pillow fight in London, a bubble battle in
Paris to the Zombie Mobs in Tokyo, we are all part of an international
community - we just haven't realized it yet. Our first event as a
worldwide body will be the Global Pillow Fight in 2008!

Soon, though, we will all be plugged in to this big idea: fun in public
space, everywhere in the world. We hope you'll join us - stay tuned!

*** ONE MORE THING ***

We like Nuit Blanche so much, we wish it happened every weekend. If you
have any interest in helping put together a free, intimate, nocturnal art
jam, perhaps in April, let us know! We are especially interested in
glowing art, but climbable sculpture, guerrilla interventions, inflatables
and weird, wacky, giant things are welcome too! Also, grant writers.

*** LOVE ***

See you at Capture the Flag
:)
