The pain of rain

Rain sucks. Actually, I'm not against rain specifically, and I'm not one to worry about getting a little wet, or even drenched by a sudden downpour. The reason rain sucks is because the change in air pressure when it rains causes me some physical pain. Sometimes I'm in a great deal of physical pain actually. Like today. Today I can barely walk, and it's pissing me off because there's things I'd like to get done.

You might be asking yourself why the rain causes me so much discomfort. Let me give you some background information here. Twelve years ago I was in a car accident, my right leg broken in places, shattered in others, and my knee ripped apart. I was promptly informed that might lose my leg. After they saved my leg I was informed that I might never walk again even though I had both my legs. After I started to walk I was told I'd never walk properly. Well, provided the air pressure isn't jumping all over the place I walk just fine, with only a slight limp. I can even run, albeit with a rather uneven gait.

Let's get to the point, shall we? I admit I'm not in the best shape of my life, although far from obese or out of shape. I really want to start training to improve my overall health and for other reasons I won't go into in this post. Official start date was supposed to be yesterday. Pain kept me from going to the gym yesterday, even more pain keeps me from going today. I'm not impressed with this situation.

  1. Ewww. That does not sound like fun. :~(
Raining here a lot too, and I have also noticed that my brand new arthritis-like symptoms (getting older, sigh) are much worse when it rains. What's with that?

  2. No, not much fun at all.

My theory about the pain getting worse is the drop in air pressure allows the swelling and inflamation to get worse, which causes the pain to get worse.
